The Civic EG Type R was a high-performance variant of the fifth-generation Honda Civic, produced from 1992 to 1995. The car was originally developed for the Japanese market and featured a number of upgrades over the standard Civic, including a more powerful engine, aerodynamic body kit, sport-tuned suspension, and larger brakes.
Under the hood, the Civic EG Type R was powered by a 1.6-liter DOHC VTEC engine that produced 182 horsepower and 118 lb-ft of torque. The engine was mated to a five-speed manual transmission and featured a limited-slip differential for improved traction.
The car's exterior styling was inspired by Honda's championship-winning touring cars and featured a distinctive front splitter, rear wing, and racing-style wheels. Inside, the Civic EG Type R featured lightweight racing seats, a Momo steering wheel, and a bespoke instrument cluster.
The Civic EG Type R was only available in Japan and was never officially sold in North America. However, the car has become highly sought after by enthusiasts around the world and has earned a reputation as one of the best-handling front-wheel-drive cars ever made.
